CBD For Pets

Updated: Apr 17, 2019

Mr. Bingley and Bella

At 406 CBD, we love our animals! We have four dogs, four cats, eighteen chickens, and two ducks. Our dogs and cats have benefited greatly from CBD supplementation. Our Natural CBD Drops are perfect for use with animals since it doesn't contain any flavorings or sweeteners.

Our Experiences

Bella, our goldendoodle, is 12 years old and has acute arthritis in her shoulders and hips. A12mg dose of Nano CBD each morning and night makes the difference of her not being able to get out of bed to her running and playing with her fur brothers. An added bonus for her with CBD supplementation is it soothes her stomach. Whenever we have given her glucosamine/chondroitin joint supplements or doggy painkillers she will vomit them back up. She doesn't have that problem with CBD. She is also prone to itchy, irritated skin and frequently get "hot spots". CBD taken internally seems to reduce the frequency of these and if she does get some skin irritation, I part her fur and take the natural CBD Drops and apply them directly to the skin. This seems to give her relief within an hour.

Mr. Bingley is a happy and loving little morkie. Unfortunately, he is terrified of many things including fireworks, gunfire, bonfires, baths, and the dark just to name a few. CBD supplementation helps if we plan ahead before grooming day, campfires, or the 4th of July. A little preemptive CBD can make all the difference between and scared, trembling, Bingley or happy little doggie.

We have used CBD Drops for temporary injuries such as a sprained shoulder in our Chihuahua to general health maintenance for our 18 year old Ragdoll cat, Phoebe.

What is CBD

CBD, or cannabidiol is a compound derived from industrial hemp, and has no psychoactive substances; but it has been known to display neuro-protective, antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and calming effects when consumed. CBD stimulates the endocannabinoid system present in mammals to bring healing and balancing effects.

How it works

Mammals have a network of receptors, called the endocannabinoid system, spread all over the body. Natural endocannabinoid substances are synthesized by the body as and when required for the maintenance of homeostasis – or, stability in the internal environment. When illness comes in, the body is unable to produce these substances in the required quantities; by introducing CBD products in your pet’s diet, you can help your pet get the endocannabinoid substances it needs. Experts also suggest that introducing supplements can induce the building of extra receptors to enable natural cannabinoids to be more effective.

Scientists have identified two types of receptors:

CB1 – in the brain, nervous system, organs and glands

CB2 – in the immune system regulatory cells.

Many tissues in the body contain both receptors, each carrying out its own function. The endocannabinoid system controls inflammation by regulating the level of immune response of the body. If the response is too active, there could be allergies and autoimmune disorders, and if it’s passive, it could make the body more vulnerable to infections and diseases.
